- Fundamentals of Horticulture II
Take your horticultural knowledge to the next level in this hands-on, in-depth course designed for those who have completed or are familiar with the Fundamentals of Horticulture Certificate. Over 12 sessions (36 hours), you’ll sharpen your skills in plant identification, botany, propagation, plant pathology, and organic landscape management.
- Plant ID & Classification – Master field identification using plant keys and explore major plant families.
- Advanced Propagation – Learn techniques in both sexual and asexual reproduction.
- Botany & Ecosystems – Deepen your understanding of plant biology, mutualism, fungi, and lichens.
- Microscopy & Floriculture – Use dissecting microscopes to explore plant structures and study floral crops.
- Fieldwork & Greenhouse – Hands-on experience with real-world horticultural tools and environments.
Certificate awarded with 80% attendance and a 75% passing score on midterm, final, and project work.

Bring your garden visions to life! This 6-week course is perfect for aspiring garden designers, backyard gardeners, or those considering a career in garden consulting or design. Gain practical, hands-on experience in every stage of the garden design process—from property evaluation to presenting a completed design.
- Design Fundamentals – Learn key principles of layout, style, and function
- Plant Selection – Choose the right plant for the right place, including natives, edibles, herbs, and pollinator-friendly species
- Installation & Planning – Explore landscape installation techniques and build your plant palette
- Real-World Project – Complete and present a garden design based on an actual site visit and client interview
Includes one Saturday morning field visit to a local property (date arranged in class).
No formal prerequisites, but Fundamentals of Horticulture is recommended.
