According to the American Historical Association:
- 18% of History majors become educators, or Library Sciences specialists;
- 15% go into Management in Business, Sciences, or the Arts;
- 11% go into the Legal fields;
- 10% go into Sales;
- 10% become Administrators of various stripes, and;
- the remainder go into many other fields, including Financial Services, Sports, the Media, and Social Services.
College graduates with a History degree in history earn an average annual income of about $55,000 – only slightly less than the $60,000 earned by Business majors.
Aside from specific career fields, History majors also develop many skills useful across career tracks, including:
- turning data and facts into a clear and compelling narrative;
- studying and interpreting impactful cultural differences in a global context;
- deploying critical thinking to clarify the cause and effect of events across time.
History majors are also notably good at reading comprehension and writing.
