Ms. Jocelyn Fajardo

Jocelyn Fajardo, an honors graduate of Brookdale Community College with a degree in Psychology, serves as the College’s Graduate Trustee. Throughout her time at Brookdale, she distinguished herself as an engaged student leader, serving as Vice President of the Student Life Board and as co-founder and president of SOL (Somos Orgullosos Latinos).

As Vice President of the Student Life Board, Fajardo helped plan and organize many of the College’s signature student events, including the annual Bonfire, monthly Bingo programs, and semester Speak Outs. Through these experiences, she connected with students from diverse backgrounds, listened to their concerns, and developed a deeper understanding of the issues that shape the student experience. She believes open communication and transparency are essential to ensuring students feel informed, supported, and empowered throughout their time at Brookdale.

As co-founder and president of SOL, Fajardo helped create a welcoming community for Latino students while fostering opportunities for civic engagement and connecting students with nonprofit organizations and campus resources. Her leadership reinforced her commitment to ensuring that all students—regardless of their background, major, or level of involvement—feel represented and have access to the support they need to succeed.

Fajardo’s leadership and service to the College have been recognized through several honors, including the Gold Star Award and the Global Citizenship Project (GCP) Award, recognizing her outstanding leadership, campus involvement, and commitment to serving the Brookdale community.

As Graduate Trustee, Fajardo is committed to strengthening communication between the student body and the Board of Trustees by encouraging students to attend trustee meetings, ask questions, and engage in conversations about the decisions that affect their education. She also plans to remain visible and accessible by attending campus events, collaborating with student organizations and academic departments, and serving as a strong advocate for the diverse needs and perspectives of Brookdale’s students.

Following her graduation from Brookdale, Fajardo will continue her education at Stockton University on a full scholarship. She was also selected to serve as a Residential Assistant, earning one of only two Residential Assistant positions awarded to transfer students for the upcoming academic year. In addition, she was chosen to participate in the American Friends Service Committee’s Emerging Leaders for Liberation (ELL) program, an eight-month leadership and social justice initiative that prepares young adults to become effective community leaders and advocates.

Fajardo cares deeply about the Brookdale community and the people who make it thrive. She credits the College with helping her grow as a leader, a student, and a person, and views her role as Graduate Trustee as an opportunity to give back. She is committed to ensuring future students have the same opportunities to succeed while helping foster a campus environment where every student feels heard, valued, and empowered to participate.
