I. Title of Regulation

Outside Speakers

II. Objective of Regulation

In accordance with the Board Policy on Outside Speakers, the Office of Business and Community Development will be responsible for providing a balanced non-partisan program when using outside speakers.

III. Authority

Board of Trustees Policy No. 7.0009

IV. Regulation Statement

Reasonable effort will be made by the College Administration to ensure that there is a balanced presentation of topical issues. The speaker’s background will be made known to his audience as accurately and completely as possible. The speakers will honor unselected questions from the floor which are relative to his presentation. The speaker will also understand that his remarks may be analyzed critically to any degree desired in College classes to ensure that maximum educational value is obtained from a free discussion of controversial issues. The sponsoring organization will also adhere to the College Regulation on Solicitation. It will be the responsibility of students, faculty, and outside community personnel to adhere to proper conduct in recognition of the rights of the speaker. It is expected that audience conduct will be of an orderly nature and will be respectful and tolerant of not only the speaker’s point of view, but also of those in the audience with differing points of view, in keeping with the philosophical platform of the College.
