2.0002 Public Access to Government Records

II. Objective of Policy

To authorize the President to appoint a Custodian of Government Records and to develop and implement Brookdale Community College (“College”) regulations and procedures assuring compliance with the New Jersey Open Public Records Act (“OPRA”), N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 et seq., a New Jersey law that governs public access to government records maintained by public agencies in New Jersey.

III. Authority

New Jersey Public Access to Government Records Law known as the New Jersey Open Public Records Act, N.J.S.A.47:1A-1 et seq. and N.J.S.A. 18A:64A-12.

IV. Policy Statement

This policy is adopted to assure compliance by the College with the New Jersey Open Public Records Act, commonly known as “OPRA”, as amended from time to time. This Policy evidences the commitment of the College to ensure compliance with OPRA and to make those government records identified under OPRA as being suitable for public access readily accessible for inspection, copying, or examination while safeguarding from public access, certain confidential, proprietary or personal information excepted from access under OPRA and/or exempted from disclosure.

The College’s Custodian of Government Records is responsible for implementing the duties and responsibilities provided by OPRA.
