Equal Opportunity Statement

Brookdale is required to include a nondiscrimination notice in a wide variety of its publications in order to comply with federal regulations. Any department that distributes bulletins, announcements, publications, catalogs, application forms, or other recruitment materials that are made available to students, employees, applicants, or program beneficiaries must include the following nondiscrimination notice in the publication:

Brookdale Community College is an Equal Opportunity educational institution. In order to promote this goal, the College makes positive efforts to ensure equal opportunity to all individuals without regard to race, color, sex, religion, national origin, disability or veteran status.

If room permits, and it is appropriate, the longer form can be used:

Brookdale Community College is an Equal Opportunity institution. No person, in whatever relationship with the College, shall be subjected to discrimination or harassment on the basis of race, creed, color, nationality, national origin, ancestry, age, sex, marital status, civil union status, domestic partner status, affectional or sexual orientation, atypical hereditary cellular or blood trait, genetic information, liability for service in the Armed Forces of the United States, disability, or other protected categories or activity (i.e., opposition to prohibited discrimination or participation in the complaint process). Sexual harassment is a form of unlawful gender discrimination and, likewise, will not be tolerated.

Short-Form Notice for Postcards, Posters and Bookmarks:

An Equal Opportunity Institution (appropriate when used in conjunction with the College logo)

Brookdale is an Equal Opportunity Institution (appropriate when used alone)

Accommodation Request Notification

Any department that is offering a program or event which is open to the public is strongly encouraged to invite participants with disabilities to request, in advance, accommodations needed to allow them to participate. Brochures, registration forms, press releases, posters and fliers announcing the event or program should include a statement advising individuals how to request an accommodation. For example:

For more information or a disability accommodation, please contact [name] at [telephone number].

For large events, it is helpful to suggest a date by which accommodation requests should be made. The following suggested language may be used:

If you need a disability accommodation, please contact _____ at ____ or e-mail _________ by [a date two weeks or some other reasonable interval before the event]. If requests are received after this date, we may not have sufficient time to make necessary arrangements.
